Senate Democrats held an event on Wednesday to announce legislation to fix a crisis that is about to hit the American people in a few months. Medicaid cuts have gotten most of the attention with the reconciliation bill that Republicans passed into law, but people with private insurance are about to get hammered with premium increases that are going to cause immediate outrage.

Video:

Sen. Wyden said at the end of an event where Democrats are announcing the steps they are taking to try to solve this problem, “Open enrollment starts in November. That's just a few months a couple barbecues in the summer and in November. Americans are going to be in for sticker shock when they go to review their health insurance…This is not some abstract thing that my good friend from the Finance Committee. We didn't make this up; these notices are going out in November, folks. Not two years from now, the stakes are really high.”

Wyden said in response to a question about getting Republicans to the table to fix this problem:

We have always said we will work with anybody who wants to do the right thing for people. I wrote a book about it. Here is the state of play as of this morning I’m the ranking Democrat in the Finance Committee, where the two of us serve, and there has been no evidence to date that the Senate Republican leadership is interested in a serious bipartisan healthcare discussion.

I have not heard from any of the senior Republican leadership. We want to help people, that's with the congressman and I are always in the business of trying to. The state of play as of today with a couple of days before there will be a work period. There is no evidence from senior Republican ship that they want to do anything bipartisan. This is not going to be just Medicaid cuts. People across the country of all ages are going to feel like they've been hit by a healthcare wrecking ball. We want to get results.
