Journalist Annie Karni of The New York Times posted on X that she had never seen anything like the crowd that was lined up for Rep. Mike Flood’s town hall:
I’ve never seen a crowd like this for a town hall for a House member. Line snaking around for blocks for Rep. Flood. Looks like a presidential campaign event.
Karni posted that the town hall was complete mayhem:
This thing has erupted in jeers in under three minutes. "There’s been a lot of misinformation," Flood says about the bill. He's talking over a rowdy crowd. "LIAR, LIAR." He seems to have known exactly what he was walking into.
…
This is complete mayhem. Entire auditorium of 700+ people are chanting TAX THE RICH. Flood is trying to go through his slide presentation. "Alright, next slide."
Question: "Why did you cut snap and healthcare research?" Answer: "We do not have unlimited money in the United States."
Here is a clip of what greeted Rep. Flood at his town hall:
In case anyone was worried that the American people had forgotten the One Big Beautiful Bill and the cuts to Medicaid in order to cut taxes for the rich, Flood’s town hall is providing an early answer.
The American people are still enraged, and they have not forgotten what House Republicans did to them at the urging of Donald Trump.
Flood does deserve credit, because unlike many of his fellow House Republicans, he did show up and face the voters. Way too many House Republicans voted for this unpopular legislation and are now hiding from their constituents during the August recess.
Rep. Flood did not do that, but if this is what is waiting for House Republicans in districts around the country, they had better be prepared to lose the House majority no matter how many seats Donald Trump can gerrymander in red states.
The last time I can remember this level of anger at congressional town halls was 2010, and in that midterm, Republicans picked up 63 House seats.
If this level of voter rage continues, no House Republican is going to be safe from what could be a blue wave bloodbath in 2026.

Wow, looks like Republican voters found something they don't like about their party. Being racist wasn't an issue for them, but cutting their benefits made the difference. Geeeez
