Trump’s deal with NYC Mayor Eric Adams was corrupt. It is astounding that so much of the corporate media has completely failed to convey this basic fact to the American people.
The Trump administration agreed to drop the federal criminal charges against Mayor Adams in return for Adams making sure that the city of New York gave Trump a free hand to carry out a mass deportation campaign.
At first, this deal was referred to as quid pro quo, but as SDNY prosecutors and DOJ Integrity officials resigned, the agreement was painted in a new light.
Hagan Scotten does not fit the prototype of someone who on paper would be outraged by the Adams deal.
Scotten was awarded two bronze stars for his service in Iraq. He served as a law clerk for both Chief Justice John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh. This is the bio of a person that the Trump DOJ assumed would comply with the order to file the dismissal of charges.
Scotten refused and instead resigned.
In his letter of resignation, Scotten wrote, “Any assistant U.S. attorney would know that our laws and traditions do not allow using the prosecutorial power to influence other citizens, much less elected officials, in this way. If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.”
Here is Scotten’s full resignation letter:
Trump’s DOJ is willing to dismiss the charges against Adams but threatened to bring them again unless Adams complied with the Trump mass deportation plan.
In other words, Trump has weaponized the Department of Justice against elected officials to carry out his policies.
