Rachel Maddow says that Trump appears to be as weak and unpopular as he has ever been, as Americans everywhere besides the Supreme Court are fighting back against him.

The worst thing that can ever happen to any political figure who dreams of being an authoritarian strongman who destroys democracy is to be revealed as weak.

Donald Trump told America that he wanted to be a dictator, then he changed his statement to wanting to be a dictator for just one day, as if that would make it ok.

Instead of giving the United States a full dictatorship, Trump promised just a teaspoon of dictatorship.

It turned out that Trump’s original statement was closer to the truth, as Trump returned to office and immediately set out to start taking away checks and balances, along with individual freedoms.

This wasn’t troops in the streets, while Trump declared himself king for life, authoritarian play. Trump was trying to pull off what is known as soft authoritarianism, where everything looks the same under the surface, but democracy is dead under the hood.

What Trump never counted on was that the American people saw through him immediately and began fighting back.

Since Trump doesn’t have democracy in his DNA, he believed that the American people would toss away democracy and hand him power.

Instead, the vast majority of Americans, who as a people are hardwired to resist tyranny, have fought Trump tooth and nail.

The result has been a rapid evaporation of Trump’s power as the nearly 80 year old president looks frail and weak, as Rachel Maddow discussed on her MS NOW show.

Maddow said:

Americans' health insurance premiums are set to skyrocket because of the policy changes Republicans forced through in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. Trump keeps saying that he’s going to unveil a fix for that, that he’s got some idea, he’s got some plan.

He pretty clearly doesn’t seem to have any plan at all for how to fix that, which is going to be a big disaster for tens of millions of American families in less than a month. At the end of this month when all of those premiums are going to go through the roof, and it is very clearly Trump and the Republicans’ fault you think he’s unpopular now? Wait till that kicks in.
