Rachel Maddow: Republicans Are Trying To Save Themselves From Sinking With Trump
Rachel Maddow said the political weather has shifted, and Republicans are trying to save themselves as they don't want to go down with Trump.
It is getting so obvious that even the national media, which has spent years propping up Donald Trump with imaginary claims of personality and popularity, is beginning to catch on that wide swaths of the American people don’t like Trump, don’t like his policies, and want him gone.
The biggest barometer for national media of Trump’s unpopularity isn’t polling. It is that Trump isn’t a cash cow for them anymore.
The breathless mainstream media coverage of Donald Trump’s every move is gone. In fact, the behavior of the national media suggests that covering Trump too much hurts ratings, readership, and revenue.

Increasingly, daytime cable news that isn’t Fox News or Newsmax seems to be going out of its way to talk about anything besides Donald Trump.
Trump gets his coverage because he is the president, but there is no more wall-to-wall Trump.
Rachel Maddow noticed this and said on her MS Now show:
I feel like everybody in the National News media is cottoning now to the fact that Trump’s approval ratings, not just in general, but on specific issues and all the issues that are most important to him, Trump’s approval ratings are just cratering.
I feel like the national media’s finally sort of figuring that out. You know that the country, broadly speaking is really quite sharply against President Trump at this point. That said, I’m not sure my brothers and sisters in the national media have quite caught to the fact of what that looks like. Even in red state, local media markets like say Tulsa, Oklahoma, I’m not sure everybody coast to coast has quite realized that what that cratering approval rating for Trump and his continued every day stepping on new rakes and doing new things that are radically unpopular with the American people.
