The party that has allowed women to be medically tortured due to their professed "pro-life" beliefs will be responsible for the deaths of 4.5 million children by 2030 unless USAID is restored.
“Projections suggest that ongoing deep funding cuts—combined with the potential dismantling of the agency—could result in more than 14 million additional deaths by 2030, including 4·5 million deaths among children younger than 5 years. These results provide essential evidence for policy makers, planners, and advocates navigating the future of US global health engagement,” the Lancet reported on June 30th.
This projection is supposed to incentivize Republicans to do something to AVOID these 4.5 million deaths of children.
They estimate that United States Agency for International Development- (USAID-) funded programs have helped prevent more than 91 million deaths globally, including 30 million deaths among children.
“This study is the first comprehensive analysis to assess the impact of total USAID funding—including support for health care, nutrition, humanitarian aid, development, education, and related sectors—on mortality in LMICs over the past two decades. Our study also disaggregates effects by age group and cause of death. Importantly, it is the only study to integrate retrospective evaluations with forecasting models that project the effects of current and proposed funding cuts on child and all-age mortality to 2030. We estimate that over the past two decades, USAID-funded programmes have helped prevent more than 91 million deaths globally, including 30 million deaths among children.”
Donald Trump dismantled USAID and Republicans have not objected.
Why the hate for USAID that saves lives and is good press for the United States?
Well, you see, it was established in 1961 by then President John F. Kennedy. You know, the one married to the woman who created the beautiful Rose Garden that Trump’s third wife destroyed after trying to emulate Jackie Kennedy sartorially at her husband’s first inauguration.
But also, Republicans are known to have wanted to reduce foreign aid. They are against aid generally speaking. Austerity for thee, healthcare for them and welfare for the 1%, etc.
Behind the scenes, some Republicans have been lobbying for the reinstatement of programs that align with Trump’s “America First” agenda, whatever that means in reality. One program they want saved is one initiated by George W. Bush, who reportedly called Secretary of State Marco Rubio ostensibly to lobby for his H.I.V./AIDS prevention program, PEPFAR.
What is left of USAID is a shell based on inexperienced political leaders making hasty decisions. In other words, the Trump Doctrine.
