Oregon Sues Trump to Block Troop Deployment
Violent crime is down in Portland and the police say federal cops are instigating confrontations outside of the ICE building, so here comes Donald Trump to stir some up with his untrained goons.
Oregon has sued to block Donald Trump from deploying troops to Portland.
“Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said Sunday that the state has filed a lawsuit to block President Donald Trump from deploying the National Guard to Portland,” Oregon Live reported on Sunday afternoon.
They report that the AG’s office “raced to file the complaint Sunday after Gov. Tina Kotek received a memo from Trump’s defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, calling 200 members of the Oregon National Guard into federal service in the city for 60 days.”

It also notes that the protests outside of the ICE building have been “typically drawing less than 30 people.”
Donald Trump is charging US taxpayers millions of dollars to send federal troops in for protests of less than 30 people.
As usual, Trump has cited reasons for invading another Democrat-led city, this time it’s Portland, and they do not track.
Violent crime is down in Portland and the police say federal cops are instigating confrontations outside of the ICE building, so here comes Donald Trump to stir some up with his untrained goons who enjoy attacking US citizens for defending their neighbors from his unlawful federalization of troops.
“I have been abundantly clear with them that Portland and the state of Oregon believe in the rule of law and we can manage our own local public safety needs,” Governor Tina Kotek said during a press conference on Saturday. “There is no insurrection, there is no threat to national security, and there is no need for military troops in our major city. Military service members should be dedicated to real emergencies. The members of the Oregon National Guard, their mission is to stand up and protect Oregonians, and they will do that every day, but they are not needed in the city. They are not needed here. And you can tell, because you’re here with me in Portland, you can see that this city is safe and calm. It is a beautiful day to be here.”
Trump claimed federal troops are needed and this has been justified using half a decade old footage from 2020. However, the Portland of today is a different place, due to years of community policing using both national and international models.
The Portland of today has demonstrations with 10,000 people that are peaceful.
Much like we saw in LA, there are nightly protests around the one Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building, and those protests can involve clashes with federal law enforcement as after dark.
Furthermore, and most damaging, the police say the violence is coming from ICE.
“Federal cops ‘instigating’ confrontations with protesters outside ICE building, Portland police official says in court,” The Oregonian reported on the 25th of September.
“A Portland Police Bureau assistant chief said in court recently that federal police were “instigating” some of the clashes between officers and protesters outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in South Portland.”
Portland Mayor Keith Wilson has condemned federal use of force against protesters, and told Trump that Portland is not a military target.
Trump claims (and mainstream news often repeats) that he is sending in federal troops to protect the singular ICE building, when there’s no danger to the building. But even if there was “danger” to the building, how would that justify the authorization of “full force if necessary” to be used against United States citizens?
It’s also notable that the ICE building is next to a Tesla building, and reportedly there are protesters at that Tesla.
The Macadam facility in Southwest Portland is a processing center for ICE. While it does hold detainees, it is not meant to be a long-term detention facility, with a permit limit of 12 hours. However, ICE has been found to be violating these terms, and so they have been sued by the city and they are threatening to evict ICE.
Trump instigated the clashes with lawless behavior1 aimed at neighbors who are not criminals and now is sending in more federalized troops to instigate more clashes.
But of course, the ICE protests wouldn’t be happening at all if Trump weren’t rounding people up and disappearing them off of the streets of the US, in addition to breaking his promise to prioritize going after violent criminals (which President Biden had already been doing, like President Obama did before Trump version 1).
Instead, 65% of individuals taken into ICE detention under Trump had no prior criminal convictions and 93% had no violent convictions, the Cato Institute found.
Also, while Trump claims he’s going after antifa, according to U.S. law enforcement as reported by Reuters, there has never been a terrorist incident in the United States connected to antifa.
Furthermore, “Violent crime in Portland has dropped in the first six months of 2025, data show. Homicides fell by 51% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to preliminary data released by the Major Cities Chiefs Association in its Midyear Violent Crime Report. That report showed Portland had 17 homicides in the period compared with 56 in Louisville, Kentucky, and 124 in Memphis, Tennessee, which have comparable population sizes.”
However, if you watch the (conservative propaganda affiliate) Sinclair station in Portland, they manage to suggest otherwise.
Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) mentioned in a press conference that they have “demanded answers from ICE and the Department of Homeland Security about the disappearing detainees” and noted that 63 members of Congress have joined in demanding information about these cases. He noted:
1. Difficulty tracking detainee locations
2. Non-functioning online detainee locator system
3. Inability of attorneys and families to locate detained individuals
4. One specific example mentioned where a detainee’s family and attorney couldn’t locate him for over 48 hours
5. ICE officials consistently deflecting responsibility, saying decisions come from “above their pay grade” or from the White House.
No reasonable person would consider such lack of accountability to be a form of addressing violence; in fact, it incites violence. Disappearing people incites fear, which raises anger. It is normal to be angry about this happening in what is supposed to be a free, democratic country. It would be wrong to not be upset.
Patriots are standing up for their neighbors as Trump’s untrained goons arrested an Oregon firefighter (Gerto Hernandez) while he was fighting wildfires, detained a pregnant woman (Annalise) who hasn’t been charged with any crime, arrested Rafael Arriola Caballero while he was recovering from elbow surgery, are using excessive force and detaining parents in front of their children at schools, for just a few examples.
There’s also the footage that went viral of one of Trump’s ICE goons violently shoving a mother to the ground after pulling her hair, when she posed zero threat to him. And the untrained clowns with loaded guns they were pointing at people who were videotaping the untrained clowns as it took three of them to wrestle in the middle of the street with a human being they were targeting. One of the clowns tried to shove his loaded gun into his pants but only made it through his belt, so he was wrestling with the loaded gun aimed right at his private parts.
Naturally, the public does not feel safe when they see things like this.
The fact that these brownshirts often wear masks and often fail to provide arrest warrants is also alarming. They could be anyone. In fact, they probably are anyone as a lot of these folks are obviously untrained and should not be anywhere near a loaded weapon.
It would be inhuman of the public to shrug and not care. So they are protesting to have due process for everyone. They are protesting out of passion and care for this country and their fellow human beings.
Donald Trump is a convicted felon, so when he says he’s going after crime and yet he only manages to find that “crime” in opposition (Democrat-led) cities where the violent crime rate has dropped, he is obviously just making things up to suit his own needs. Trump and his ICE goons are literally instigating the violence he is putting on a big show about ending.
Trump is no stranger to making up fiction to justify his fear, bigotry and paranoia.
