Johnson’s bill doesn’t extend Obamacare subsidies and would cause health insurance premiums to skyrocket for 23 million Americans.
Democrats refused to support Johnson’s legislation, but instead of negotiating, Donald Trump and the Republicans who control the federal government, shut the government down, because they were still operating under the assumption that if the government shut down, Democrats would cave to pressure and millions of people would lose their health insurance.
The Democrats in the House and Senate have refused to budge unless the Obamacare subsidies are restored.
Trump, Johnson, and the Republicans appear not to have expected this level of resolve, which means that Mike Johnson has gotten increasingly more desperate after painting himself into a corner with a failed strategy.
Republicans won’t negotiate. They won’t reopen the government, and Johnson has had the House closed for nearly a month.
Democrats keep telling Republicans how to end the shutdown, but they won’t listen.

Congressional Democrats have no clue where Johnson got this idea.
