By all polling, Mike Rogers is losing the US Senate election to Democrat Dr. Abdul-El Sayed in Michigan. Rogers is burdened with Trump baggage that he can’t shake off, so he has decided that his only path to victory is to make the election about El-Sayed.
Rogers isn’t running so much on El-Sayed’s policy positions. Rogers is trying to scare Michigan voters by suggesting at every turn that El-Sayed has connections to Muslim terrorism. Trump has gone beyond Rogers and called El-Sayed a jihadist.
Mike Rogers said on CNN on Sunday:
Listen, I, I've never called him the terrorist. Uh, I wore the uniform of the United States of America, so people can pray any way they want. That is not the issue here. What has become the issue is his relationship and his family relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, which is banned in five Muslim countries. I, you know, he wants to play the victim.
This is not about that. This is about the way you think, not the way you pray. This is about your ideology and how dangerous it is. I mean, he has a long history of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood.
Rogers doesn’t want to talk about Trump, the economy, or healthcare.
Mike Rogers is a scare and smear campaign.
It’s not working, so Rogers is asking Trump to intimidate voters in the city of Detroit.
