Mike Johnson Blames Democrats For His Refusal To Swear In Adelita Grijalva
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said that Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva is a victim of the political games that are being played by Democrats.
Speaker Mike Johnson ran out of excuses a long time ago for not swearing in Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva.
Johnson has tried everything from claiming that the House isn’t in session to arguing that it is all Adelita Grijalva’s fault because she hasn’t scheduled a date for her swearing-in. Johnson has even tried to claim that Grijalva should be working for her constituents, even though she can’t because she is not a member of Congress yet, due to the fact that the Speaker of the House hasn’t officially sworn her in.
Grijalva has endured the longest wait in House history to be sworn in. It has been 37 days and counting since her election victory. The state of Arizona is suing the Speaker because he is denying 812,000 citizens representation in Congress.
Johnson keeps saying that he will swear in the Arizona Congresswoman-Elect when the House comes back into session. At the same time, Mike Johnson continues to keep the House closed and out of session.
Speaker Johnson won’t talk about why he refuses to swear Grijalva in, but he was again asked about it during an interview on CNN.
Dana Bash asked Johnson:
I want to ask about something that has been going on for a long time, or maybe not been going on for a long time. In the House of Representatives, and that is Congresswoman Elect Adelita Grijalva has not yet been sworn in. Today’s her birthday. She was elected on September 23rd. She’s now the longest elected member of Congress who has, she’s waited the longest to be sworn in of anybody.
You say you’re gonna swear her in when the government reopens, you. Sworn in Republicans during pro forma sessions before different. Why not do this?
