It was December 1981, the time of year when walking home from the school bus, glass Christmas lights twinkled and flashed off the houses. As I walked home eagerly awaiting Christmas cartoons, because back in those days, there was no on-demand viewing, if you wanted to watch Yogi’s First Christmas, you had to be in front of the TV by 4 PM.

This was also the before times when local stations didn’t view every moment of their non-network schedule as an opportunity run another hour of cash-generating news. TV stations showed holiday programming during after-school hours.

The thing that I remember most was the sound of snow crunching under my winter boots. It is funny what memories stick with us for our whole lives, but even through this day, the crunch of snow under my boots can take me back to that place where I was a child and my most pressing issue was getting a handful of Christmas…
