Merry Christmas, America: You're Beating Donald Trump
Last Christmas, it may have felt like there would not be much to celebrate. One year, into Trump 2.0, the American people have proven to be stronger than any president.

It was December 1981, the time of year when walking home from the school bus, glass Christmas lights twinkled and flashed off the houses. As I walked home eagerly awaiting Christmas cartoons, because back in those days, there was no on-demand viewing, if you wanted to watch Yogi’s First Christmas, you had to be in front of the TV by 4 PM.
This was also the before times when local stations didn’t view every moment of their non-network schedule as an opportunity run another hour of cash-generating news. TV stations showed holiday programming during after-school hours.
The thing that I remember most was the sound of snow crunching under my winter boots. It is funny what memories stick with us for our whole lives, but even through this day, the crunch of snow under my boots can take me back to that place where I was a child and my most pressing issue was getting a handful of Christmas cookies and being in front of the TV by four.
Christmas 2024 was a time of anxiety, not celebration, for many Americans. Trump was returning, and almost immediately sending him back to the White House, there was a sense from many voters that they had made a terrible mistake.
There were dark thoughts about democracy immediately ending and a curtain of totalitarianism being dropped over the United States, as many seem to have forgotten that the person that was being sent back to the White House was perhaps the most personality-damaged and incompetent president of all time.
Donald Trump is the strongman without the strength, so what has thusfar unfolded has been predictable.
The only power Trump has taken has been that voluntarily given to him.
The American people fought back from day one of his administration. Two of the five largest popular protests against a president happened in 2025. Trump’s approval ratings are garbage. His agenda has been a complete failure, and he has tanked the economy, while creating a health insurance crisis that has blown back on him and his party.
Then there are the election results. Democrats have been overperforming and winning elections in parts of the country where they have not won for decades. Democrats swept across the country in the 2025 election. The victory was so comprehensive that even the Trump-fearing corporate media has acknowledged the reality that Trump is unpopular and Republicans might be doomed in 2026.
None of this happened by accident.
What Trump and many experts never anticipated was the strength of the American people. The force that was going to defeat Trump’s dreams of being a king was never the courts or a political party.
It was the American people.
Those who are young and those who are not. Those who live in cities and small towns. From east to west and north to south, neighbors and communities are coming together to say no to Trump and his agenda.
This Christmas, Donald Trump is still in the White House, even though he seems to know that he is on the path toward lame duck irrelevance.
Next Christmas at this time, the American people will likely have even more to celebrate if Democrats win the midterm election, but for now, take comfort in the steel backbone of democracy in the hearts of the American people. That is the secret sauce that is defeating Donald Trump.
Merry Christmas to all.
Things will get better in 2026.
