Markets crater in reaction to Trump’s tariffs as the internet mocks him for putting a tariff on Penguins.
We knew Trump didn’t like dogs, but his trade war with penguins is… weird, especially since he left Russia alone while running around tariffing everyone else.
After the Trump administration put a 10% tariff on the uninhabited Australian territory of the Heard and McDonald Islands, which are home only to colonies of penguins and other wildlife, the internet cannot stifle its contempt for the incompetence.
Trump tariffed nearly everyone — except his beloved fatherland of Russia.
And so he has again been met by much mocking.
“Impressed the crack White House economic team not only found the Heard and McDonald Islands—an uninhabited Australian territory which is a two week sail from the mainland requiring a permit to visit—but that they managed to figure out the optimal retaliatory tariff to impose on penguins,” economist Justin Wolfers shared above this image:
“unprecedented protests this morning on heard and macdonald islands, as the population rises up against trump imposition of 10% across the board tariffs,” ian bremmer wrote above this image of penguins.
“The Trump regime has put a 10% tariff on the Heard Island and McDonald which is inhabited only by Penguins. The majestic Penguin has become the first nonhuman in history to enter a trade war with the United States,” Anonymous chimed in.
“‘10% tariffs. Beautiful tariffs. And the penguins - big, strong penguins - come up to me, tears in their eyes: ‘Sir, please, no tariffs. We can’t compete with American penguins.’ But I say, ‘America first.’ They don’t like it, but it’s happening,’” Canada Hates Trump joked.
“Even penguins got hit by Trump — but not Russia The tariffs were imposed on the uninhabited Heard and McDonald Islands in the Pacific Ocean. These volcanic landmasses, owned by Australia, have no vegetation and are home only to colonies of penguins. Which specific goods from this territory Donald Trump decided to slap with a 10% tariff remains unclear,” Nexta TV wrote.
But Seriously
