House Republicans unveiled their plan to pay for tax cuts for the rich with Medicaid cuts, and it is estimated that 14 million Americans will lose their healthcare under the GOP plan.
What is interesting is who stands to lose their access to healthcare.
According to an analysis from the Center for American Progress (CAP):
CAP finds that implementing Medicaid work requirements could leave a combined 2.7 million manufacturing, agricultural, and service workers without health coverage in the first year, increasing to an average of 3.4 million workers in subsequent years. This may be a conservative estimate because the Brookings study was based on workers across a broad spectrum of industries, with a lower overall rate of turnover and seasonality than for agriculture and services.
While it is unclear whether the federal Medicaid work reporting requirement policy under consideration by Republicans in Congress would apply to expansion enrollees only or to all adults with Medicaid coverage, states with a high proportion of Medicaid enrollees working in manufacturing—including Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio—and in agriculture or services—including Utah, North Dakota, and Hawaii—could be particularly hard hit by such coverage losses.
A poll found that a slight majority of manufacturing workers supported Donald Trump in the 2024 election. Exit polling revealed that 78% of farmers and agricultural workers supported Trump.
Given the states that are on the CAP list as most heavily impacted by the Medicaid cuts and the percentages of the two sectors that supported Trump, it is reasonable to expect that a sizable number of Trump voters who are on Medicaid stand to lose their health insurance under the Republican plan.
Much like other Trump voters, they assumed that the president was talking about harming other people, not them.
Tariffs remain at their highest levels since World War II, and Republicans are planning on paying for tax cuts for the rich at least in part by harming their own supporters.
Those who voted for Trump because they thought that he could fix the economy were warned that they were the ones who would be hurt by a Trump return to the White House.
Unless something dramatic changes, they will find out that voting for Trump has consequences.

Wake up, MAGA voters and non-voters!
Elections have consequences. If MAGA voters suffer great loss and pain perhaps it would cause them to be more thoughtful when they vote again. NOT! Honestly, schadenfreude is a real thing and I have zero empathy for them.
