Malaysia Concerned as Trump Picks MAGA Hooters Lover as Ambassador

Nick Adams is known as the guy who tweets a lot about being a supposed alpha male and going to Hooters and Malaysia is concerned that he's Trump's nominee as Ambassador.

Donald Trump picked Nick Adams, who identifies as the mythical construct of an “Alpha Male,” to be the Ambassador to Malaysia.

Asean diplomats expressed concerns that the pick of Adams prioritizes political loyalty over diplomatic experience. Nick’s nomination was sent to the Senate on Wednesday.

This is concerning to, well anyone with a brain, but also to the conservative Muslim-majority in Malaysia, “which favours quiet diplomacy over headline-grabbing rhetoric,” The South China Morning Post reported.

Adam’s brash persona marks a stark departure from previous ambassadors to Muslim-majority Malaysia, typically seasoned career diplomats suited to the country’s cautious, pragmatic and subtle style of foreign policy, which favours quiet diplomacy over headline-grabbing rhetoric.

They cited one of his viral tweets as indicative of the issue:

In one widely shared social media post, Adams declared: “I go to Hooters. I eat rare steaks. I lift extremely heavy weights. I read the Bible every night. I am pursued by copious amounts of women,” adding his critics “hate me because I have the body of a Greek God”.

“It’s a surprising pick that favours political loyalists over those who actually fit the post,” a diplomat in Kuala Lumpur, who declined to be named, told This Week in Asia.

You’re probably wondering how bad could the Australian-American commentator be (yes, so many of Trump’s chosen to Make America Great Again are not from here), given the cornucopia of incompetent and dangerously ignorant people Trump has chosen so far.

Well… it’s hard to sum up in one brief post. But how about starting at the part where he served in local government in Australia before he was “formally condemned by fellow Councillors after racking up thousands of dollars worth of phone calls and cab charges for personal benefit” in 2006.

In 2009, the Liberal Party denounced him for conduct deemed likely to "embarrass or cause damage to" the Party during an altercation with a journalist.

Is it just an altercation involving a tirade of abuse aimed at a journalist, you ask? I mean, that’s bad but it’s pretty par for the course on the Right.

OK. How about Adams’ plan to kill pigeons to reduce the Avian flu, according to a Guardian post.

He was elected to Ashfield council while still a student, and in 2005 became the country’s youngest deputy mayor. In office, his big idea was to kill the municipality’s pigeons in order to reduce the spread of Avian flu.

“Ashfield should be inhospitable to pigeons,” he said at a council meeting. Avian influenza does not respect borders ... I’m not an expert. I’m not an accountant. I’m certainly not a pest controller. Don’t ask me about procedure. What I would like to see is no pigeons in our area.”

Adams was not done imposing his ideas, such as they were, upon the unsuspecting citizens of the council. Adams suggested, for example, that the city use a DNA-test to catch dog owners who didn’t pick up their dog’s poop.

Also on his agenda was his contempt for multiculturalism. Adams believes it “creates groups and pockets of people that of course, then feel that there are certain elements of superiority and inferiority and I think that we need to be united.”

Adams has published books that portend to inform the reader how to become an Alpha Male, another book in which he called Joe Biden “The Most Dangerous President in History” and another about Trump and Winston Churchill being “Defenders of Western Civilization.”

In case you don’t spend a lot of time around these folks, “western civilization” is often used by white supremacists as a racist dog whistle.

You’ll perhaps understand why the Right hates scientists next.

Science debunked the myth of the “alpha male.” The research shows that women do not like a man who is aggressive or dominant, but rather a prestige man high in assertiveness and kindness:

Taken together, the research suggests that the ideal man (for a date or romantic partner) is one who is assertive, confident, easygoing, and sensitive, without being aggressive, demanding, dominant, quiet, shy, or submissive. In other words, a prestigious man, not a dominant man.

In fact, it appears that the prestigious man who is high in both assertiveness and kindness is considered the most attractive to women for both short-term affairs and long-term relationships. This research should offer some assurance that the genuinely nice, passionate kid who learns a culturally valued skill can be immensely attractive.

Nick Adams is not the person who comes to mind when you need a wise and careful touch. He is not a diplomat. On the contrary, Adams is the kind of person who got very upset about “female” M&Ms and called Taylor Swift a “woke Jezebel.”

In true Alpha Male style, Adams tweeted about his hurt feelings over M&Ms being female gendered in January of 2023:

“I am DONE with M&M's! Not one M&M will pass my lips until Mars issues a formal apology and releases an all-male package of M&M's to demonstrate their commitment to gender equality. These female M&M's are a slap in the face to men everywhere. We MUST band together and boycott!”

Adams is the kind of guy who thinks if he repeats “Alpha Male” with a lot of misogyny, he will magically be the kind of man to whom women are drawn.

In other words, there is nothing — absolutely nothing — about Nick that speaks to being remotely skilled at handling sensitive situations.

Adams is really, really good at licking one man’s boots. That’s why he got picked to be an Ambassador and thereby humiliate most Americans.

If Alpha males were a real thing, anyone who was one wouldn’t need to tell us they were one. And that’s the intrinsic juxtaposition of being around some of the most repulsive people on the planet — they must always find new ways to convince themselves that they are winners, even though anyone worth knowing is actively avoiding them.

It will surprise no one that Donald Trump wrote a forward for Adams’ book on how to be an Alpha male. That is, how to be the kind of man most women find repugnant. Or, in Trump world, a “diplomat.”
