You have done such a wonderful job at presenting this. It is the level of reflection that most people should practice. I completely agree with you. Sadly, I didn't hear about the black single mother's case, so it made me question whether I am getting all the information from my sources of information. I can relate to the challenges faced during postpartum. While I consider myself lucky to have snapped out of my depression, it made me feel some level of sadness about how little help I received with it. I don't wish that upon any mother welcoming their new baby. You mentioned Northern European countries that offer support to mothers after having their babies with home visits. They have moved the needle even further than that by offering mandatory paternal leave as well. Having dads take care of the baby has proven to increase their empathy towards their wives and has reduced their divorce rates drastically. Sadly, in the US, we are going to start small: let's provide some support to new mothers with paid maternal leave and support them in cases of domestic violence. I cannot believe that the bar is so low as to say, let's keep them alive and safe when they are pregnant. That is survival, not thriving. It makes me so sad to even think about having to lower the bar that low!
