Lawrence O'Donnell Calls Out Melania Trump's Immigration Status

Lawrence O'Donnell said that people are being arrested and deported for using the same way that Melania Trump came into the United States.

As Donald Trump has moved on to deporting legal US immigrants, there is one US immigrant who got legal status whom the president never wants to talk about.

Trump has been avoiding the conversation about how his wife, Melania, was in the country illegally but ended up with legal status for nine years.

The media has forgotten this story, but MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell hasn’t.

Donald Trump has never been very serious about deadlines. You might recall his promise nine years ago that his wife would hold a press conference during Donald Trump's first presidential campaign to explain her immigration status, and she would do that to explain the evolution of her immigration status. Having arrived in this country, apparently on a tourist visa, there are people being rounded up by federal agents dressed as soldiers carrying weapons of war for overstaying tourist visas.

And so, Donald Trump, letter of the law. Compliance with immigration law is obviously the thing that he cares about the most. He's willing to send people to countries they've never been to for the slightest irregularity and their compliance with our immigration law.

He's willing to send people to South Sudan, where there is a war going on. People from Central America sent to South Sudan. And so you might be wondering right now, what about Donald Trump's third wife's immigration status?

It's nine years later. Donald Trump is rounding up people at the point of assault weapons. Donald Trump is sending troops into MacArthur park in Los Angeles where children are playing. It's nine years later. And that press conference as of tonight is nine years overdue. So no, we've never heard Melania Trump's story. Donald Trump's third wife's story about how she came to have legal residence in the United States. And so Trump always chickens out might apply to more than one person named Trump.

The same rules do not apply to people with the last name of Trump that the president is using to justify deporting innocent people who are here legally and have committed no crime.

If the White House press had a speck of courage, they would ask the president about the immigration status of his wife, but they are too afraid to do that.

It has been nearly a decade, and we are still waiting for that Melania Trump press conference. Melania Trump has never explained her immigration status, but you can be sure that ICE won’t be showing up at her door to haul her away.
