The House has adjourned until noon ET on Wednesday with no Speaker of the House. Until there is a speaker, the new Congress can’t officially begin. Republican leader Kevin McCarthy watched his career unravel as he lost three consecutive votes to become the next speaker. There is rampant speculation that McCarthy will bow out of the speaker race and open the door for a different Republican to try to get to 218.

Even if Rep. McCarthy can reach an agreement with his caucus to get enough votes to become speaker, he has made so many concessions that the MAGA House fringe is going to be running the Republican majority.
