The Election Is Beginning To Take Shape
Conventional wisdom held that Kamala Harris would experience a honeymoon period from voters and the polls when she entered the race, but nearly a month ago, Sarah said in a great video that demonstrated her insightfulness that the Harris momentum wasn’t a honeymoon; it was the real thing.
One sign that Harris's momentum was real was the tens of thousands of people who showed up to see her. A Kamala Harris rally quickly became a concert-like event; supporters were loud, engaged, and energized.
Something else happened at those early rallies that have continued: The supporters of Kamala Harris are intense. The people at these events are focused, locked in, and intensely ready to support their candidate.
Compare the scene at a Harris rally with Trump’s supporters falling asleep or walking out on him while he is still speaking at his events.
It isn't easy to measure intensity, so pundits and pollsters don’t often discuss it, but intensity is also a factor that matters in elections. Supporters who are intense and focused turn into voters who show up and cast their ballots.
The Harris campaign hasn’t made many mistakes. The campaign has so far hit all of the right notes. The convention was a well-oiled messaging machine that concluded with Kamala Harris looking like a future president.
In my view, the most important thing that Harris has done is resist the urge to make the election about Donald Trump. Kamala Harris has built her own movement based on joy and looking to the future. She isn’t campaigning to stop Trump; she is campaigning to move America forward.
Harris has taken away Trump’s oxygen and made the central question in the minds of voters about whether they want to move forward or go back to Trump.
As we will discuss below, that strategic choice is Trump’s biggest problem.
Trump Doesn’t Know How To Run Against Harris
Donald Trump built a one-trick pony campaign that was only designed to run against Joe Biden. Trump has no positive message for the country and doesn’t inspire voters. His entire campaign rationale was to motivate MAGA to seek revenge for losing in 2020.
