The Campaign Can No Longer Hide Trump’s Decline

One of the elements that the media has largely ignored concerning Donald Trump and the 2024 presidential campaign is that from the beginning, Trump has been hidden and sheltered.

Trump was on the ballot, but did not really participate in the Republican presidential primary. In fact, he tried to have the nomination handed to him without a primary.

Donald Trump loves media attention, but he refused to participate in the Republican presidential primary debates against much younger opponents. If the political media was doing its job, they would have been relentlessly asking why. Instead, they let Trump skate and run a campaign that basically only did one appearance a week.

Trump blamed his criminal trial, but the ex-president could have hopped on his plane every day after court ended and campaigned, but he chose not to.

The Trump general election campaign has been the 2020 strategy on steroids. Donald Trump has chosen to hide in plain sight on conservative media. Trump gets walked through his appearances by supportive hosts. His campaign town halls have usually featured a Republican woman who Trump likes to help him with answers and generally babysit him.

When Trump does speak on his own, he can’t stick to a topic and quickly deteriorates into rambling nonsense.
