Let’s be honest. Like State Of The Union, most acceptance speeches don’t stand the test of time. Most of them aren’t remembered, and if they are, they are reduced to a short clip or two that gets stuck in the history books.

It is very easy for a candidate to get bogged down by the challenge of speaking to the entire nation in what is a solo presidential audition. Some campaigns use the acceptance speech to target certain specific groups of voters. Other speeches seek to shore up perceived concerns with the candidacy, and some candidates go way too long.

Sometimes, the pseudo-presidential platform reveals that a party’s nominee doesn’t pass the presidential eye and ear test.
