Senator Joe Manchin (D-VA) is coming off of his high of having complete power over the President of the United State’s agenda. Instead of hiding in his yacht this time, the Democratic Senator has found new ways to insert himself into the dialogue.
This time, he’s carrying water for Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) - a man who has such little power it took 15 rounds of voting before he could wheel and deal his way to the gavel.
Joe Manchin “just met with Speaker McCarthy on the debt limit MANCHIN said McCarthy told him he will not cut Social Security and Medicare,” Jake Sherman reported.
“Manchin also said he hopes Biden will negotiate over the debt limit.”
Well, no. Just no. But it’s worth mentioning that Manchin does not want cuts to Social Security, and suggested on Sunday during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” that lawmakers raise the cap on payroll taxes to fund it.
“The easiest and quickest thing that we can do is raise the cap,” he said.
