How To Define Presidential Success?

In the old days of a few decades ago, presidential success was easy to define. Did a president get a couple of their big priorities passed and is their approval rating over 50%? If the answers to these questions were yes, a president was deemed successful.

As American politics has become more entrenched in partisanship, presidential approval ratings are less of a true reflection of how the nation feels about the president.

This reality hasn’t stopped the media from attaching significance to a number that increasingly has none. Just last month, the media proclaimed that Democrats were doomed in the midterm due to Biden’s approval ratings.
