Joe Biden Absolutely Can Not Pardon Donald Trump

Rep. Jim Clyburn Supports Biden Pardoning Trump

There are some Democrats who seem determined to take the party further down the path of destruction. This isn’t a new position for Democrats to be in. During the 1980s, after Ronald Reagan won the presidency, the party floundered at the top, and even with control of Congress for much of the decade, seemed determined to stick with tired leadership and ideas and on a path of least resistance.

It was a decade of irrelevance for the Democratic Party that would not end until Bill Clinton arrived on the scene during the 1992 Democratic primary. The new generation of Democratic leadership had its mistakes which it could be argued include too much deregulation, free trade, and welfare reform, but even with losing the House, the 90s were a decade of revival for Democrats.

After the country’s dark period under George W. Bush that included 9/11, two wars, the mismanagement of the response to Hurricane Katrina, and the Great Recession, Democrats entered what may go down in history as a mini-golden era under Obama then Biden, broken up by a brief Trump interlude.

The one thing that Democrats have not done since the 1980s is roll over and play dead in the face of Republican opposition, but that is what some Democrats like outgoing Sen. Joe Manchin (WV) and Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) are suggesting that Biden do by pardoning Donald Trump.

Clyburn recently told CNN that he could absolutely support a federal pardon for Trump, “Yes, I could, absolutely. Because the Supreme Court has pretty much made it very clear, that he is preemptively pardoned of anything he may do as president.”

What Clyburn is saying is that Biden should pardon Trump for stealing classified documents and inciting an attack on the Capitol in a bid to overthrow the government.

Democrats spent years telling their supporters that democracy would end if Trump won, but instead of fighting tooth and nail, some of these same Democrats, like Clyburn, say that they could support Biden pardoning Trump.

A Trump pardon would be an absolute disaster for both Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

Democrats Want Leaders Who Fight Not Appease Trump

The country would gain nothing by Biden pardoning Donald Trump. Democrats who claimed that Trump is the greatest threat to American democracy since the Civil War would look like total hypocrites.
