Jake Tapper And The Media’s Blame Democrats Game

On Sunday morning, CNN’s Jake Tapper provided a textbook example of the corporate media’s pro-Republican bias as he blamed Senate Democrats for Senate Republicans blocking one week of paid sick leave for rail workers.

Jake Tapper tries to blame Senate Democrats for rail workers not getting 7 days of paid sick leave, and Sen. Sherrod Brown responded, " We have -- every Democrat but one voted for the sick paydays, seven sick days. Only six Republicans -- we couldn't get to 60 votes."

Tapper played a clip of a rail worker blaming Biden and the Democrats for not getting them paid sick leave and asked Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), “  After the amendment failed, you still voted for the final deal. How do you explain this to a union worker like Reece. It doesn't seem like Democrats were standing up with all of their force against these billion-dollar rail companies.”

Brown responded to Tapper with the facts:

We have -- every Democrat but one voted for the sick paydays, seven sick days. Only six Republicans -- we couldn't get to 60 votes. I take a back seat to nobody in fighting for workers and union members, non-union members, too. The issue here is we have to keep the economy going.

I'm going to go back to working with staff, the leader’s office, the White House, on how we help these workers to make sure eventually they get these sick days. We also know if there had been a strike, that literally hundreds of thousands, maybe more workers would have been out of work for a lengthy period of time. We have to look at the whole economy, but I will never lose my focus on those workers who didn't get as good a deal as we'd like to have had. Again, almost every Republican voted no. We're continuing to try to work bipartisanly with them and the White House to fix that.
