Jack Smith has finally gotten his wish and is publicly testifying about his investigation and charges against Donald Trump. Senate Republicans on the Judiciary Committee are on a mission to rewrite the history of the 1/6 attack and turn the criminal investigation of Trump into a vast conspiracy theory that it was a political prosecution.
In essence, the Democratic members of the committee are trying to discuss Smith’s investigation, while the Republicans are trying to reframe it by creating a fictional narrative.

In his opening statement, former Special Counsel Smith debunked the Republican narrative that he is a partisan who was out to get Trump.
Smith said:
I've been fortunate to serve a country that I love for nearly 30 years in local, national, and international settings. My service has spanned both Republican and Democratic administrations. I am not a politician, and I have no partisan loyalty. My career has been dedicated to serving our country by upholding the rule of law and the core principles upon which our country was founded. I believe there is no role for politics in the proper administration of justice. A prosecutor's decisions must be based on the facts and the law.
Smith wasted no time getting into the Trump investigation.
