It Is Now A Crime For Anyone At DOJ Not To Release The Epstein Files

Rep. Ro Khanna said that because of the Epstein files legislation that was passed by Congress and signed into law, it is now a crime for any member of the DOJ not to release the files.

One of the side effects of the Trump/Johnson plan to bury the Epstein files going haywire is that there are about to be a lot of unintended consequences if and when Donald Trump ever decides to sign the bill into law.

Trump signed the Epstein Files Act into law, which means that the 30-day clock is now ticking on the Department of Justice to release the files.

Democrats like Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) say that they have zero confidence that the DOJ will actually comply with the law and release the full files.

Blumenthal said during an interview with CNN, “I have no trust, no confidence whatsoever, John, that this Justice Department will be even handed or fair in the disclosure of these files. It will be on us in Congress, and hopefully a bipartisan effort to scrutinize and oversee this process. The reason I say it is that, obviously, the Department of Justice has become a weapon in Trump’s arsenal […] There is no credibility in this Justice Department, which is why our oversight and scrutiny will be so important and reaching out to other sources of information.”

Given the way that the current DOJ has behaved, Blumenthal’s skepticism is not misplaced. It seems that almost everyone believes that the DOJ is going to play games with these files.

What happens if the DOJ refuses to release the files or releases bits and pieces?

Doing so could mean legal trouble down the road for any DOJ official who does Trump’s bidding.
