Mike Johnson went from considering shutting down the floor of the House to shutting down the House completely until September 2 to avoid having to hold any votes on the Epstein files.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) called the House Republicans out for running away:
Booker said:
It is apparent right now that the House of Representatives is running out of town and the Republican caucus over there is so fragile that they cannot withstand simple debate and discussion about the topic of Jeffrey Epstein. Senator Durbin said it plainly that we are now in a nation where we had our highest law enforcement official say plainly that there is a client list and a truckload of evidence that they were going to release, and now months later, they're saying nothing to see there.
It is clear that one of those statements is not true, and so therefore someone has lied to the American people. The hypocrisy of the Republican Congress right now that they are refusing to do their job, they are so under the thrall of this president that they're undermining the design of our republic and our constitutional intent that our branch of government is a co-equal independent branch.
No. They are turning us into a submissive branch that does the bidding, that carries out whatever their dear leader says. Why are the Republicans so afraid of the truth? Why are they so afraid to stand up and hold this administration accountable for their lies?
House Democratic Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is fond of saying that Republicans are running scared. In this case, Republicans are literally leaving early and running out of Washington, D.C.
Why? What are they so afraid of?
The latest CBS/YouGov Poll found that 89% of Americans support the release of the Epstein files, but Republicans are so afraid to debate or even discuss the topic that they are running out of town.
Mike Johnson and Donald Trump are hoping that the Epstein scandal goes away by September.
This is a cowardly stall tactic. The Epstein files questions will follow each Republican home and hound them in every single district until they return in September.

Wait, House members routinely get a month paid vacation in summer? We need a national, unassailable by the SC, law, that states every US citizen must receive every single benefit that a member of Congress enjoys. That is, several weeks of paid vacation, a lifelong, livable, pension, and universal healthcare for life. As for Republicans skipping out so no debate or vote on Epstein documents can occur for now, I didn't realize they ALL support rape, abuse of children, and sex trafficking of children. Who knew?
They’re cowardly enablers. Especially the so called Christians like the current Speaker and that filthy hypocrite Mark Harris.
