Title 42 expired at midnight. But Republicans have dumped the border in President Biden's lap while refusing to fund the border patrol and other resources the administration needs.

“This is a plan that draws on measures we know work, but it is also a plan constrained by the fact that, not only has Congress dealt us a bad hand, House Republicans are actively trying to make things worse,” senior administration officials said of the expected border crisis as Title 42 expires.
In a press call with senior administration officials, we were briefed about Biden’s new border plans when Title 8 goes into place today. Their headline seemed to be ‘the next few days will be difficult and Republicans are making it worse.’

The Trump-era Title 42 pandemic rule allowed U.S. authorities to turn away asylum-seekers. That expired at midnight on Thursday evening. Regions along the border have already seen major surges in crossings and more are expected as issues in Central and South American nations have led to a huge increase in border crossings in the last two years.
