House Democrats Immediately Reject Rumored Senate Deal To End The Shutdown
Senate Democrats will be meeting on Sunday to discuss a potential deal to end the government shutdown that does NOT restore the Obamacare premiums. House Democrats are already saying no.
The contours of what looks like a bad deal to reopen the government have been floating around the Senate all week.
The deal is:
A CR through January 2026
A package of spending bills
The rehiring of laid off federal workers
A promise of a December vote on extending ACA subsidies
At least ten Democrats are willing to vote yes on a procedural measure to move the package forward.
It would seem that Democrats are looking for a way to open the government through the holidays, but also leave their options open for a future shutdown.
The promise of a vote does absolutely nothing for the 24 million Americans who are about to see their health insurance premiums skyrocket, because even if the Senate votes to extend the subsidies, Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to allow a vote on the subsidies in the House.
It is a terrible deal, and one that Democrats can’t agree to if they want to have any hope of winning back power in 2026.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was not supportive of this same deal earlier this week, and Senate Democrats are meeting at 5 PM on Sunday to discuss it.
There is a strong possibility that Senate Democrats meet and agree to say no to the deal, but even if this agreement does get through the Senate, House Democrats are already lining up to say no.
