A Weak Man Who Wants To Be Strong
The most striking impression from the Trump interview with Sean Hannity is how a man who was the most unpopular president in American history has changed nothing to appeal to voters.
Everything that voters disliked about Trump during his presidency that led to his defeat in 2020 is still there and is now turned up to a higher level.
Hannity was intent on using the interview to help Trump refute claims that he will be a dictator if he returns to the White House.
The Fox News host asked Trump, “To be clear, do you in any way have any plans whatsoever if reelected president to abuse power, to break the law, to use the government to go after people?”
Trump didn’t help his cause, “You mean like they are using right now? In the history of our country what's happened to us, again, has never happened before. Over nonsense, over nothing, made up charges. I often say Al Capone was one of the greatest of all time if you like criminals. He was a mob boss the likes of which, scarface they call him, he got indicted wants. I got indicted four times. I wonder what my father and mother would say looking down.”

Hannity was unsatisfied with Trump’s answer so he tried again later, “We almost have to go to a break. I want to go back to this one issue because the media has been focused on this and attacking you under no circumstances. You are promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?”
Trump answers, “Except on day one. I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill….I'm going to be--I love this guy. You are not going to be a dictator, are you? I said no other than day one. We are closing the border and drilling, drilling, drilling. Other than that I am not a dictator.”

Trump didn’t say no when asked if he would abuse his power.
The former president also promised to go back to policies that were unpopular with the American people, because in true authoritarian fashion, what the majority of the country wants doesn’t matter to him.
Donald Trump’s verbal skills and mental sharpness have eroded to such a degree that he tried to redefine dictator but gave the quote that will spawn a million ads that will be used against him in the 2024 campaign.
Trump is a weak man who wants to be strong, and as we will talk about below, the Hannity interview backfired on him.
