Hakeem Jeffries Tears Trump A New One For Vanishing During Government Shutdown
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said that after shutting down the government, Trump vanished into the Presidential Protection Program, where he can be seen golfing but not ending the shutdown.
House and Senate Democrats have drawn universal praise from political observers for their degree of unity and how they handled the Republican government shutdown.
One of those who has been at the forefront is House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The White House claims that they aren’t paying attention to Jeffries, and Trump goes out of his way to never use the New York Democrat’s name, but Trump’s posting of AI videos that are racist about Jeffries tells a different story.
The House Democratic Leader is calling out Trump directly, and he has none of the courtesy that Democrats have exhibited on occasion.
During a press conference, Jeffries was asked, “ Since your meeting with the president is, and do you think that he ultimately needs to engage in order to have the Republicans perhaps take up healthcare as well?”
The next potential Speaker of the House said:
In the White House meeting that we had last week, I made clear to the president with Johnson and Thune sitting right there that the reason why Leader Schumer and I demanded this meeting is because at the end of the day, nothing’s gonna happen on the Republican side unless Donald Trump tells them to do it.
The Republicans here in Congress have long ago abandoned the notion that they’re part of a separate and coequal branch of government. They don’t see their jobs that way. They function like functionaries, like wholly owned subsidiaries of the Trump administration, and all they’ve done all year, these Republicans here in Capitol Hill is to rubber-stamp Donald Trump’s extreme agenda that’s raising costs on the American people and ripping healthcare away from them.
