Is it just that Democratic Party leaders would very much like Santos to represent the party, or can he be fairly called the face of the modern GOP? After all, the public often sees scandal-ridden alleged con artist George Santos as a distraction from the real problems.
Santos is exhausting, especially after six-plus years of Donald Trump. It’s natural to see him as a temporary clown, one who came to power via a midterm last-minute redistricting shakeup that allowed him to squeeze through the cracks unvetted.
But the larger issue is that even with all that’s come to light about Santos, the Republican Party leadership not only won’t rebuke him or try to squeeze him out, but they stand by him and even suggest he would be a better president than Joe Biden.
