Gavin Newsom Hits Trump Where It Hurts The Most
Gov. Gavin Newsom's address called out Trump supporting lawlessness when it serves him, which is Trump's biggest weakness. He also destroyed MAGA propaganda about immigration.
The evening before more Marines were to be illegally deployed to Los Angeles, California, Governor Gavin Newsom addressed nearly 40 million Californians and Americans to destroy MAGA propaganda about immigration and point to Trump’s embrace of lawlessness and violence when it serves him.
Watch here:
Newsom destroyed the MAGA propaganda that Democrats didn’t go after immigrants with serious criminal records:
California is no stranger to immigration enforcement.
But instead of focusing on undocumented immigrants with serious criminal records and people with final deportation orders – a strategy both parties have long supported – this administration is pushing mass deportations.
This is accurate. In recent years, both the Obama and Biden administrations prioritized deporting violent criminals, and yet Republicans falsely frame the Democratic Party as welcoming criminals into the U.S.
The Governor of the 4th biggest economy in the world alluded to the fact that Trump is a criminal who is not opposed to lawlessness and violence when it serves him:
By the way, Trump – he’s not opposed to lawlessness and violence, as long as it serves HIM.
What more evidence do we need than January 6th?
I ask everyone to take the time to reflect on this perilous moment.
A president who wants to be bound by no law or constitution.
Perpetrating a unified assault on American traditions.
This is a President who, in just over 140 days, has fired government watchdogs that could hold him accountable for corruption and fraud.
Trump and the Republican Party have tried to erase it, but there is a lingering stigma of 1/6 that hovers over this president and delegitimizes every attempt that he makes to look strong and project his “peace through strength.”
Peace through strength was one of the excuses that Speaker Mike Johnson went scurrying behind when asked about Trump’s actions in California and the hypocrisy of Trump not calling out the National Guard on 1/6.
The attempted coup on 1/6 is the glaring weak spot of Trump’s presidency. It is the dark cloud that follows this president everywhere he goes. The 1/6 attack on the Capitol is the frame around everything that Donald Trump does.
Gavin Newsom understands this, which is why he spoke about lawlessness and violence as a method of tearing away any cover of legitimacy that Trump tried to place over his illegitimate actions.
Trump Is Using Propaganda
The Trump administration and MAGA echo chamber are playing images of looting and cars burning on repeat (some of the images of cars burning that were widely shared were actually from 2020) as if this justifies Trump violating the law and as if Trump didn’t escalate this situation by militarizing Los Angeles neighborhoods with federal troops and grabbing pregnant citizens and children off the streets without due process.
Authorities have now fired ‘less-lethal’ weapons from rooftops, pepper balls at crowds, flash-bang grenades at a crowd, appeared to have deliberately shot an Australian journalist with ‘non-lethal’ rounds, causing Trump to be caused a threat to press freedom by an Australian senator, and have injured reporters 27 times, according to a letter by the Freedom of the Press Foundation.
Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-CA), who represents an area targeted by ICE, said in a news conference Tuesday evening that protests were already under control when National Guard members arrived.
“The sheriff’s department in Paramount got it under control,” Barragán said. “Overnight in Los Angeles, the LAPD got it under control, as well, and cleared out the situation. And then all of a sudden, the National Guard showed up. We know this is intended to create chaos, to escalate the tensions.”
Newsom is accurate in pointing out that Trump is fine with and even incites violence when it serves him. Trump did not call in the National Guard on January 6th when his supporters were trying to hang then VP Mike Pence, going after lawmakers, and violently attacking Capitol Police, leading to multiple deaths.
Deadly insurrection violence on Trump’s behalf and against the United States itself, his own V.P., U.S. lawmakers and police officers is fine with Trump, and that’s why no one should be surprised that he incited and inflamed violence in Los Angeles.
Inciting lawlessness is Trump’s life work. He is, after all, a convicted felon who faced multiple other charges that he only avoided the law on by winning the presidency again.
The optics of what Trump has done are so bad to everyone except diehard Trump cult members that other cities held solidarity protests for the last several days, including New York City, Dallas, Chicago, Oregon, Philadelphia, Portland, Seattle, and Las Vegas.
Governor Newsom’s words are backed with action. On Tuesday, he filed an emergency request for a temporary restraining order to block the expansion of troops, this request is in addition to a lawsuit seeking to reverse federal troop deployment in California, which he and the state say will impact other states.
Here’s what to know to prepare for the No Kings protests on June 14th.

Newsom hits all the points in a short speech. Perfect.
Bear in mind that many prisons are privately owned and it is a matter of numbers, more inmates equal more money.
