American politics is a pendulum. Donald Trump’s election in 2016 is commonly thought of as a reaction to the Obama years. After Trump bungled the response to the pandemic, voters responded by voting for the experience and competence of Joe Biden.

The theory is that once the country goes too far in one direction, voters will course-correct by voting in the opposite direction to bring the nation back toward the middle.

Trump has ignored the will and needs of the American people and instead moved the federal government to the far right ideologically, and is running an administration that caters to the wealthiest Americans while being defined by graft and corruption.

Sarah Jones talks about how Trump gets treated differently from other presidents:

Donald Trump has endorsed candidates who reflect his own views and corruption. When Trump decided to endorse someone who, if elected, would serve as a rubber stamp for his agenda, even though that candidate is one of the most scandal-ridden figures in the United States, in a Republican Senate primary, he set his party up for disaster.

Ken Paxton is toxic, but Republicans are hoping that the (R) beside his name on the ballot will be enough to get him into the Senate.

However, the swing back away from Trump also includes a swing away from Trump’s politics of division.

Dan Cogdell was one of Paxton’s lead attorneys, and he is now one of the Texans who is rejecting his former client.
