Donald Trump might not be breaking the law in terms of the midterm election, but he is cheating, and just like his plan after the 2020 election, the centerpiece of Trump’s operation is the Department of Justice.
In the aftermath of the 2020 election, the DOJ was unwilling to do Trump’s bidding. In 2026, Trump made sure that would not be an obstacle by getting his personal criminal defense attorney confirmed as attorney general.
The DOJ has traditionally avoided taking steps that involve candidates running for office within 60 days of an election to avoid interfering in the outcome of an election.
The tradition has been turned on its ear under Trump.
The DOJ has raided the home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and filed a lawsuit to block the certification of the Alaska US Senate election if the Republican incumbent loses.
What we are witnessing is pre-emptive election interference.
Donald Trump and his administration aren’t engaging in illegal activity, but they are cheating and violating election norms.
