Dobbs Has Made Democrats America's Moral Conscience

The pundit class believes these issues don't matter, but the Dobbs decision has confirmed that Democrats are the moral voice of America.

The Second Anniversary Of The Moral Wrong Of Dobbs

In the two years since the conservative Supreme Court majority overturned nearly half a century of individual freedom with the Dobbs decision, Republicans have watched their party lose elections big and small, as they have catered to the desires of extremists who were not satisfied with seeing the federal right to choice taken away but wanted to ban all choice in reproductive care.

Republicans painted themselves as the party of freedom, but after Dobbs, red states rushed to take away more freedoms.

The GOP has not been able to square the circle of how a party that claims it is all about small government and individual liberties has taken a fundamental liberty away from the majority of the US population.

Republicans have treated Dobbs like a political problem.

The GOP thinks reproductive freedom is a ballot box time bomb waiting to go off, and if they can figure out the right wires to cut, they can defuse the issue.

However, reproductive freedom isn’t a political problem.

Here is Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday’s Morning Joe:

When I was in high school, I learned that my best friend was being molested by her stepfather. And when I learned about it, I said to her, you have to come live with us. I called my mother. My mother said, of course, she has to come stay with us and she did.

And so at a young age, I decided I wanted to do the work that was about protecting women and children, and I became a prosecutor and I specialized in particularly child sexual assault. And the fact that after the Dobbs decision came down, that laws have been proposed and passed, that as Hadley has said, makes no exceptions, even for rape or incest, think about what these extremists are saying to a survivor of a crime of violence to their body, a survivor of a crime that is a violation of their body. And to say to that survivor, and you have no right or authority to make a decision about what happens to your body next. That is immoral. That is immoral.

Women and the vast majority of Americans don’t view their freedom as a political issue, and Democrats are the party that is speaking for them morally.
