Democrats Signal That They Are Coming After Trump's Corrupt Pardon Abuse

Democrats have new legislation that they say would bring transparency and accountability to the presidential pardon process, and reaffirm that bribery laws apply to the president.

The Supreme Court’s presidential immunity does not exempt the president from federal bribery laws. The president isn’t immune from accepting a bribe.

Critics have alleged that Donald Trump has been in the bribe-taking business since he returned to the White House. There have been allegations of a shady cottage industry popping up around Trump’s pardon power that involves payments of millions of dollars that result in presidential pardons being issued.

While Democrats are in the House and Senate Minority at least until January 2027, when the next Congress is sworn in, Democratic members have been introducing legislation to lay out their priorities and highlight what elements of corruption they are likely to focus on in 2027 if Democrats take back power.
