Democrats Get Closer To Passing Resolution To Stop Trump's Iran War
Three Republican Senators voted for a war powers resolution that would put an end to Trump's war in Iran. Democrats came up just one vote short of passage.
Senate Republicans blocked Sen. Jeff Merkley’s (D-OR) war powers resolution that would have given the Senate back the authority to end Trump’s Iran war. With one Senate Republican (Ricketts) absent, the final vote was 49-50.

Just three Republicans voted with Democrats to cut off the military campaign: Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky; Susan Collins, R-Maine; and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. Murkowski switched her position after previously aligning with Trump.
And just one Democrat voted to block the war powers resolution: Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa.
One member didn’t vote: Sen. Pete Ricketts, R-Neb.
As if Pennsylvania Democrats needed another reason to primary John Fetterman, it was Fetterman who was the deciding vote that sided with Republicans to block the resolution.
If Fetterman had voted with his party, the resolution would have passed, marking a landmark defeat for the president while he was napping in China.
Senate Democrats have a strategy to hammer Republicans with resolutions to end the war every single week that the Senate is in session.
As the war drags on and grows more unpopular, pressure is growing on Republicans to vote to end the war.
