Democracy Wins As Senate Quietly Kills Trump's SAVE America Act

As soon as Senate Republicans moved on to voting on a budget resolution, debate ended on the SAVE America Act without a vote, which means that Trump's election rigging bill is dead.

Over an hour ago, the Senate voted on a budget resolution, which is the first step in the GOP’s plan to pass a skinny reconciliation bill to fund ICE and border patrol.

A procedural vote on a budget resolution by itself is not important, but what that budget resolution vote bumped was very important.

When Senate Republicans voted, they closed the door on Trump’s SAVE America Act.

Punchbowl News noted that when the Senate moved on, debate would end on the SAVE America Act:

When the Senate begins voting this week on the budget resolution for ICE and Border Patrol, the SAVE America Act will no longer be the pending business. Another procedural vote will be needed to restart the floor debate on the bill. This will continue to be a challenging issue for Thune to navigate amid unrelenting pressure from conservatives, despite the almost-zero chance the bill can pass.

The SAVE America Act is now off the calendar.

Republicans would have to hold another procedural vote and win it in order to be able to open debate again on the SAVE America Act.

The odds of this happening are slim to none.
