Conservative OK State Superintendent Who Ordered Schools to Teach the Bible Resigns
Bye! The Right's culture war leader Oklahoma state Superintendent Ryan Walters resigned after ordering schools to teach the Bible.
Bye! The Right’s culture war took a hit today as Oklahoma state Superintendent Ryan Walters resigned after ordering schools to teach the Bible.
The Right’s “war” on freedom continues unabated, but there are victories for science, facts, reality, democracy, and sanity. And this is one of them.
Naturally, Walters isn’t just going to spend time with his family when there is a “war” against American freedom to win, so instead, he is going to “destroy the teachers unions.”

Yes, he said that. These folks aren’t subtle. Apparently, Jesus hated the common man standing up for one another against the powerful, and so Walters will lead the misnamed conservative, anti-union group the ‘Teacher Freedom Alliance’.
“We’re going to destroy the teachers unions,” NBC quotes him as saying.
“State Attorney General Gentner Drummond, a Republican, slammed Walters in a statement after the announcement, saying in a post to X that Walters’ appointment as superintendent led to ‘a stream of never-ending scandal and political drama” and calling him “an embarrassment to our state,’” NBC added.
Notably, and keep this in mind for later in this piece, Drummond added, “Even worse, test scores and reading proficiency are at historic lows.”
“It’s time for a State Superintendent of Public Instruction who will actually focus on quality instruction in our public schools,” Drummond said.
The Guy Attacking the ‘Woke Left’ Has Sketchy History
This past summer, two state school board members said they say nude images of women playing on a TV in Walters’ office.
Although later, DA Vicki Behenna released a statement saying there was “insufficient evidence” to support criminal charges, Walters falsely claimed that he has been cleared at the time:
“… days after two state school board members said they saw nude images of women playing on a TV in state Superintendent Ryan Walters’ office—Walters denied any wrongdoing and falsely claimed investigators had cleared him.
He also accused Governor Stitt of orchestrating the entire thing as a “character assassination,” but refused to answer reporters’ questions seeking clarity and evidence to back his claims.”
Board members told News 4 that the content on the TV would cause a teacher to lose their license:
“No board member has accused Superintendent Walters of anything, we only brought attention to inappropriate content on a TV—content that would cause a teacher in our state to lose their license. As the investigation continues, we urge Superintendent Walters to cooperate with law enforcement and refrain from smearing the names, characters and reputations of board members.”
The “bombshell” accusations in this incident resulted in a criminal investigation after board member Becky Carson submitted a complaint on July 25, 2025 to OMES General Counsel stating, “she was subjected to pornographic images on the monitor of Ryan Walters.”
It sounds like a lot of people really disliked working with this guy.
It should not be a surprise that this top notch example of conservative Christianity (scandal-laden chaos!) had recently announced a partnership with Turning Point USA, suggesting on X that it was necessary because “radical leftists with the teachers union dominate classrooms and push woke indoctrination on our kids.”
Presumably, woke indoctrination is the only kind of indoctrination that is not okay, but forcing the Bible on students is fine.
Speaking of indoctrination, in March of 2025, an Oklahoma Representative sent a letter to the Attorney General requesting a formal opinion after she said Walters used state resources to promote TFA.
Why do conservatives want to destroy such a positive force for communities?
