Comedian Nikki Glaser raised the alarm about comedians and critics being put on a Trump list, noting that a comedian friend of hers was asked by customs agent if she made fun of politicians.
"I'm not trying to be an alarmist but I definitely don't think that I am immune to having some kind of backlash... Look at other places that have dictators,” Time Magazine captioned their video (which won’t embed on Substack because Elon).
Glaser was sharing an anecdote during an event hosted by Time magazine on Wednesday about how she was able to be more critical of Trump while doing a show in Canada than she is in the U.S., as she doesn’t want to alienate her fans here.
But even being able to make those jokes in Canada caused concern that she is being put on a list and not let back into the country.
"Oh My god, what if what I said gets recorded and sent out, maybe I could not be let back into the country," Glaser said.
Glaser related this to her friend who was stopped by customs and asked if she made fun of politicians.
“I have a friend, Jena Friedman, who posted on Instagram that she was performing in Vancouver and when she came back customs asked her what she did. She said she was a comedian and they asked her if she talked about politics and made fun of the president," the comedian said.
“They let her go, but they asked. I'm not trying to be an alarmist but I definitely don't think that I am immune to having some kind of backlash or that I could be put on some kind of list because of some story I reposted,” she said.
“Look at others places that have dictators. you're not allowed to say bad things about them.”
While the Right spent the last five years whipping the media into a frenzy over the Left’s supposed “death of comedy,” they are suddenly silent as the administration they cheer for goes after critics, universities, the press, and judges, and law firms.
To idea that comedians are afraid of not being let back into the country over a joke they made is exceptionally troubling, and given the behavior of this administration, not exactly tin foil hat time either.
They loved free speech until critics used it. And that is a sign of a movement that does not actually value the tenets of democracy or freedom, because liberty can’t be doled out just to people you agree with and like in a truly free country.
Donald Trump is definitely radically changing America, but not to make it great again. He’s reshaping America into an isolated fortress where he plays strongman and he cruelly pulls support for the “weak” in every capacity, because that is his worldview. It’s might makes right and the “strong” are always right.
Look at other places that have dictators, indeed.

Trump is not a dictator…. ONLY IF WE THE PEOPLE LET HIM… ❗️
Very soon no one who even looked at Trump cross eyed will be able to either enter or leave the country. US citizens will be denied passports. This shit happened in the 1950s and it's happening again.
