CBS Tried To Blame Democrats For Gerrymandering, But Hakeem Jeffries Wasn't Having It
The right-wing ownership of CBS was felt as Face The Nation posed a question to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries that tried to blame Democrats and Republicans for gerrymandering.
We’ve all heard it.
Context matters.
When Donald Trump launched his plan to avoid being a lame duck president by having Republicans keep the House majority in 2026, he did so unilaterally.

Trump went to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and ordered him and the Republican majorities in the state House and Senate to gerrymander their congressional map to find Republicans five more House seats.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom told Trump in August that any redistricting done by his state will be undertaken in response to what the president is trying to do to rig the 2026 midterm election: “If you will not stand down, I will be forced to lead an effort to redraw the maps in California to offset the rigging of maps in red states.”
Democrats are not responsible for the current gerrymandering that is going on around the country. Republicans started to gerrymander in a bid to save Donald Trump’s presidency.
This is the context that Margaret Brennan of CBS’s Face The Nation ignored while questioning House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
Brennan asked Jeffries about using the term election rigging to describe what Trump is doing, “I want to ask you about something you said. You said, Democrats- there are no election deniers on our side of the aisle, you said that back in January. But recently, you’ve been using the term “rigged elections” in reference to the upcoming midterms. Democrats were appalled when President Trump used language like that. How do you justify using that now? Doesn’t that undermine faith for voters you need to show up?”
