Candace Owens' Interview with Hunter Biden Confirms Trump's Politics of Hate Are Failing
Owens tied a dislike of being gaslit to the collapse of MAGA and apologized to Hunter Biden for mocking him for years over his addiction. It was a shocking display of humanity by both parties.
Far right personality Candace Owens’ interview with former President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden centered their shared humanity, even though she spent years mocking him as a crackhead.
It was perhaps the clearest example of why Trump’s divisive politics are failing, as it is at its core an argument against Trump’s politics of hate and his deliberate weaponization of fear, resentment, and prejudice to mobilize voters, demonize opponents, and consolidate power.

Humanity, Addiction, Political Division
Owens invited Hunter to talk about his addiction and in doing, he got to speak to her audience who have heard a lot of lies about him. He talked about his shame and the Catholic guilt (they are both Catholic) he carried about his addiction.
Guilt is appropriate, but shame is not, he noted.
He shared that evidence of his worst shame and guilt was on the “laptop” that was shared with the entire world on a daily basis (by Republicans with political motives to distract their base) and he became Hunter Biden laptop, known for those things. But he chose to own it all without shame or fear.
Candace said she understands crack cocaine addiction because she “grew up with tons of addicts” in her family, saying she had uncles and cousins who struggled with crack cocaine and other drugs.
Hunter talked about how there used to be a time when someone far right like Candace and the son of the last Democratic president would sit down and disagree about tax policy or the Catholic Church’s view on abortion “and still be able to go have a meal together.”
Candace agreed, recalling when she was left-leaning in college and her best friend was a conservative Republican “it wasn’t so at each other’s throats and hating each other and wanting to destroy one another. And you know, you could kind of see the good and the bad and go, well, I’m, you know, this is why I have this perspective. And perspectives could change. And that was allowed too.”
Hunter Biden said to Candace Owens at the 30 minute mark, “I think that we are not nearly as divided as a people as we think that we are.”
I think that we all can associate with, understand addiction at more or less devastating levels. So for instance, where’s your phone? I mean, you basically have a packet of heroin. We all do in our pocket. Constantly giving us that dopamine, which by the way, we can get to talking about that because I think that we are not nearly as divided as a people as we think that we are. I think that that bag of heroin in everybody’s pocket is feeding them a lot of that division. But is, so we can all kind of understand the compulsion to do things that aren’t, um, that clearly aren’t benefiting us, like staying up, uh, until 3 o’clock in the morning and going through your For You page on TikTok.
Candace said the thing that drove her anger against Hunter Biden was she felt gaslit by the ‘Hunter Biden laptop being Russian propaganda’ talking points (the actual claims made at the time were that because the chain of custody of the laptop wasn’t clean, they couldn’t be sure Russians hadn’t inserted things onto the laptop, which was happening and is a way Russians sow propaganda).
Collapse of MAGA
Candace tied the feeling of not wanting to be gaslit to leading to the collapse of MAGA:
You know, I think about what it was that just revisiting what made a lot of people, including myself, so angry about you. Or I guess it wasn’t really about you. It was the gaslighting. It was the letter that came from people saying it was Russian propaganda. That is what is driving us crazy about the Epstein files right now. It’s what’s actually leading, ironically, to the collapse of the MAGA support is we don’t want to be gaslit. And to be fair, it wasn’t you. That’s why it was so refreshing when you were like, yes, I had a crack addiction. This is me. I did this. I was with hookers. But you weren’t speaking for you. And they were, there were literally a bunch of people that were coming out and saying, this is not real.
Hunter Biden’s Laptop, the Truth
This gave Hunter the opportunity to set the record straight and explain how his stolen laptop was actually a hard drive and while he agreed he should been able to talk about what was on it, his hard drive was stolen weeks before the campaign and weaponized politically against his dad.
Yeah, by the way, is that— here’s the problem, is that Steve Bannon saved, and Rudy Giuliani saved the quote-unquote laptop, which by the way is bullshit. The, the, like, if we can agree on that gaslighting, I will agree on the gaslighting of this, is that, is that it was never a quote-unquote laptop. There was a hard drive of stolen and hacked material wherever it came from, whether it came from a Delaware repair shop or whether it came, like Lev Parnas says, from Dmitry Firtash, who was trying to sell a hard drive of Hunter Biden’s in Ukraine, you know, that they were looking for before the laptop repair shop guy was ever the twinkle in the eye. Just go back and look at the record, okay? So here’s the thing… it was 2 weeks before the campaign, and then it, and, and, and then the, the election was over. Steve Bannon, it goes on, uh, and with his buddy Gao, um, you know, the Chinese billionaire that’s now in prison, and you know, that, that is like a Chinese spy or whatever, you know, where he got arrested on his boat and all that crap, is it— I mean, there is a— go listen to it.
“Go listen to the recorded conversation in which they say, like, the laptop, like, ‘We got them. We, like, you know, so we put all— we collected all the salacious pictures and we put them out there.’,” Hunter explained. Then Hunter said Rudy Giuliani and Bernie Kerik publicly claimed (falsely) that the hard drive contained child exploitation.
“Like pure, you know, I mean pure bullshit, just bullshit,” Hunter said.
Hunter’s Laptop Became the Focal Point for Angry MAGA
Candace said after Joe Biden won the 2020 election, people were so angry and felt it was “stolen” from Trump (because Trump falsely claimed it was stolen repeatedly for years and even had an attempted insurrection over it), and so they felt there had been “collusion” to cove up Hunter’s laptop and that’s how he became the focal point of the anger.
