Congress is on Memorial Day recess, which means that members of the House are back in their districts, hearing from their constituents.
Rep. Ashley Hinson showed up back home in Iowa and got an earful from her constituents, many of whom were criticizing and denouncing Donald Trump in a district that he won by ten points in 2024.
One constituent asked Hinson, “ President Trump and his cabinet, in addition to being totally unqualified and inept, are breaking laws by ignoring federal judges' orders. The checks and balances of our government includes Congress's responsibility. To hold the executive branch accountable. My question for you is, when are you going to do the responsibility that you were elected for by holding the executive branch accountable up to and including impeachment?”
Hinson made it clear in her answer that she is never going to hold Trump accountable:
Well.
And, um, I don't think this country needs another impeachment charade. That's what we saw in the last Congress, and I voted no on that for a reason. Um, judges need to follow the law as well. And, um, you know, what I think is important about the bill we just passed is we have a number of judges who have been, um, activist judges and going beyond the scope of their district courts.
And if you look at Congress's law, the laws that are on the books and Congress's role there. Um, judges need to be following federal civil procedure. So our bill includes a provision that would make sure that they follow, uh, things like rule number 65, which is what we've seen egregious abuses of, uh, by some of these judges recently.
Um, we have a bill called the Rogue Rulings Act, which would help to, um, to again reel this in. If someone is suing in a district court, they should be provided relief in that district court. It's not a nationwide court decision, it is a district court decision. Um, and that is designed on purpose within our system.
And so judges need to be following that law as well. As far as the checks and balances, Congress is executing its right to do that. We are using what's called the Congressional Review Act Authority. Um, we've used that in many cases, uh, already. This Congress, when we don't like a rule or regulation introduced by an administration, Congress can.
Another constituent told Hinson why Trump isn’t a role model for children.
Hinson quickly pivoted away from impeachment and started talking about punishing judges.
The judges are following the law. Donald Trump isn’t, but the House Republican plan is to punish judges.
Watch the full town hall:
Republicans in Congress are writing it out in big capital letters for the American people to see.
They are never going to check Donald Trump.
If the American people want to restore the system of checks and balances, they are going to have to give Democrats a majority in some or all of Congress.
Even in a Trump-supporting state like Iowa, people can see what is going on, and they want action.
Things haven’t gotten better for House Republicans. Trump is an anchor around their necks, and his unpopularity is the Democratic path to a House majority next year.

I think waiting for the next election will be way too late! its time we investigated how we can remove our representatives NOW if they are not doing what we demand ( its gone beyond a request they have ignored our requests!!)
This woman is just as sick as the Felon! The judges are doing their jobs and following the LAW, which is 1000 times more than the Felon or Congress is doing! I hope her constituents vote her out!
