Biden And Warnock Make History In Georgia

Sen. Warnock’s victory was historic as he became the African-American in Georgia to be elected to the US Senate.

President Biden is the first president since FDR in 1934 not to lose a Senate seat:

In 1934, no Democratic senators lost re-election. But since 1934, every president, Democrat and Republican, has seen at least one senator from their party lose re-election in every single midterm cycle. Biden becomes the first president since FDR not to lose a single senator.

It has been 88 years since a president did not lose a Senate seat in the midterm. The reason why Republicans felt so confident heading into 2022 was that they had this historical fact in their back pocket. The GOP had no reason to believe they would not win one of the Senate races in Nevada, Arizona, or Georgia. Republicans had been plotting to win Sen. Warnock’s seat since he won it. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell spent at least $200 million trying to flip the Senate, and he lost a seat.

It is also the first midterm since 1934 where a president’s party added Senate seats and governors:

Some history-making tonight: • First midterm since '62 that Dems netted Senate seats while holding White House • First midterm since '34 that the WH party netted Senate seats *and* governorships • First midterm since '34 that the WH party didn't *lose* a single Senate seat

Republicans are blaming Trump for everything, but the history associated with the Warnock win goes back further and suggests that Republicans have deeper issues than Trump.
