Be Angry At Special Counsel Robert Hur's Smear Of Joe Biden
The Trump nominated special counsel didn't find any Biden crimes, so he used his report to deliver his opinions of Joe Biden's memory.

Special Counsel Robert Hur Smears President Biden
We’ve seen this movie before. In 2016, James Comey and the DOJ gave Donald Trump a big assist that pushed him over the finish line by making a production out of Hillary Clinton’s emails. James Comey was a Republican FBI Director in a Democratic administration who used his platform, intentionally or not to help Donald Trump.
In 2024, Trump nominated US Attorney turned Special Counsel Robert Hur released his report on President Biden’s handling of classified documents. He found that no crime had been committed, and Biden fully cooperated with the investigation in ways that Trump did not, Hur also used his report to deliver a series of subjective and opinionated attacks on the President’s memory.
I wrote about these attacks earlier on PoliticusUSA, and you can read about them here.
In my 20 years of writing about politics, the one self-rule that I try to follow is to never tell readers how they should feel. I am here to present information to you, and you should make your own determination and feel the way you that you feel.
In this edition of The Daily, I am going to break that rule.
You should feel angry at what Special Counsel Hur has done.
One of the reasons why Republicans were able to get away with the Hillary Clinton email scandal in 2016 was that the left never got really angry. Sure, the scandal was dry and a bit dull, but it was also not true, and a lot of people sat back and let it happen.
Maybe they did it because Clinton is a woman, which is my hunch, or maybe they thought that it didn’t matter because Hillary Clinton would win anyway. There was a lot of that going around in 2016, too, as people just assumed that America could possibly elect a sexually assaulting pile of angry orange sherbet to the White House, but they were wrong.
Republicans have been trying everything from the 2016 playbook to boost Trump, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that they have gone the full Comey.
The difference is that this time, we have to react differently.

Don’t Support Media That Indulge The Hur Slur Against Biden
Conservative media has already run with the catnip that Hur has given them, but conservative media doesn’t matter because they were already going to vote for Donald Trump.
Assuming your media diet is already Fox News and Newsmax free, let’s begin with cable news. I have been hearing from MSNBC viewers for years who feel that the network’s lineup between noon and 4 PM ET on weekdays is unwatchable. The most frequent complaints remain centered around Andrea Mitchell and Katy Tur. It is Tur who appeared to delight in repeating Hur’s smears of Biden, but MSNBC long ago left its liberal tilt behind and has been not so subtly bending more toward Republicans for a while now, but if you see anyone on MSNBC glorifying Hur, turn them off and don’t come back.
CNN is a rudderless ship, so they are likely to engage in the Hur smear but do it with less joy and treat it like serious news.
On the print side, the Hur report is the sort of thing that the openly pining for Trump New York Times and Washington Post pine for, but even the Associated Press got in on the act with an inaccurate lead in their story about the Hur report.
If you reward this coverage, you are sending the wrong message. The one thing conservatives do very well is when they deem a media to be biased, they blacklist it and don’t return. This tactic is one of the reasons why the corporate media is so afraid to enrage Republicans.
Get angry about this and demand better.
Get angry and commit to voting, and getting others to vote too.
Get angry and directly financially support candidates, which means don’t fall for super PACs or groups or claim to be raising money for or splitting donations with a candidate. Go to that candidate’s website and make a direct donation.
Get angry and support media like The Daily that tries to inform you and doesn’t give a flying F if it hurts the feelings of anyone because you deserve the truth, and democracy depends on the truth.
Get angry and don’t allow 2016 to happen again.
