Bari Weiss Counts on Friendly Reception at NYT

Bari Weiss is seeking an interview with a ‘friendly’, and who better to whitewash her partisan attacks on CBS News than the New York Times.

Back when Elon Musk was taking over Twitter, I got written up in an article for calling Bari Weiss a ‘stenographer for a billionaire’ for her part in telling Musk’s partisan, deceptively-edited story from pieces handed to her by a billionaire (Musk).

The Daily is journalism that is focused on democracy and rights. Please support our work by becoming a subscriber.

I stand by that today, as she runs CBS into the ground for MAGA-appeasing partisan hack David Ellison.

But weirdly, it seems Weiss thought her bootlicking era of billionaire-appeasing journalism would go down differently. Talk about being in a bubble.

It turns out even Bari Weiss doesn’t like being known as the person who destroyed CBS news and its ratings.

Bari Weiss Seeks a Friendly PR Wash by the New York Times

Seeking a rebrand as CBS hits a historic ratings slump with CBS Evening News frequently falling below the 4 million viewer mark while CBS Mornings hits all-time ratings lows, Bari Weiss is seeking an interview with a ‘friendly’ as they call them in MAGA world.

And The New York Times is exactly where Bari Weiss knows she can find such a friendly.

Specifically, The New York Times’ Michael Barbaro for “The Daily” podcast, according to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter.

Over the past few months, as Bari Weiss has come under mounting criticism for a string of erratic moves at CBS News, including the radical overhaul of “60 Minutes,” the embattled network boss has largely remained mum. While the 42-year-old has offered some remarks about the swirling controversies during the network’s morning editorial meetings and provided a handful of quotes to print outlets, she has mostly avoided the media spotlight.

But Weiss is not the type of person who likes to take criticism lying down. Her natural instinct is to fight back—and Status has learned that she is eager to do just that. According to people familiar with the matter…

Weiss calls Barbaro “a friend and admirer.”

Weiss needs a friendly to let her MAGA-splain how she as Editor-in-Chief of CBS News, who previously led a right-wing “free speech, anti-cancel culture” movement, needed to, well, cancel certain journalists in order to get the results her (new) billionaire (nepo baby) boss seeks.

Weiss ousted executive producer Tanya Simon and correspondents like Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega from 60 Minutes. She fired veteran correspondent Scott Pelley after he publicly confronted Weiss and her chosen executive producer, Nick Bilton, accusing management of “murdering” 60 Minutes.

Friends in High Places

Weiss had at one time even suggested Barbaro for the CBS Morning lineup.

Quid pro quo. What is journalism if not selling the people out to whitewash the PR disasters of your elite friends? Have you even seen Hitler’s villa?!

To be fair to Weiss, she used to work editing and writing for the New York Times opinion section until she quit in 2020, claiming it was a “hostile work environment” that lacked “ideological diversity” after publishing Tom Cotton’s op-ed calling for the use of military force against the George Floyd protests.

You might say she’s not at all new to hate and ignorance and elite bubbles.

Bari Weiss’ Secret Meeting with Raging Anti-Woke Elites

In 2021, Weiss met up with media moguls and producers who were secretly raging about wokism impeding on their status. They were holding a Santa Monica “salon” of grievances with the goal of destroying woke culture.
