As Armed Militias Terrorize FEMA, NYT Dismisses Trump Threat To Democracy
Trump threatened to use the military on the Left and armed militia "hunting" FEMA caused them to stand down. Meanwhile, the NYT blames also the "Left" for criticism of their Trump coverage.

Anyone with a few working brain cells can see that ex-president Donald Trump is a danger to democracy. In recent days, he has given a Nuremberg-style speech, threatened to use the military on Americans who don’t support him, and his conspiracy rhetoric has inspired an armed militia to threaten FEMA workers to such an extent that they had to standdown from hurricane recovery efforts.
Trump Threatens the left
On Sunday, the convicted felon and Republican presidential candidate called the left the “enemy” within the US, a bigger problem than Russia, and threatened to use the National Guard against Left Americans during a taped interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News:
We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they’re the big – and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen.
…
Well, I always say, so we have two enemies. We have the outside enemy. And, and then we have the enemy from within. And the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia, and all these countries, because if you have a smart president, he can handle them pretty easily. I handled, I got along great with all, I handled them.
Armed Militia Hunt FEMA
Also on Sunday, we learned that Trump’s conspiracy rhetoric inspired armed militia to terrorize FEMA workers, who on Saturday had to stop critical hurricane recovery rescue work in Rutherford County, North Carolina:
“Federal emergency response personnel on Saturday had employees operating in hard-hit Rutherford County, N.C., stop working and move to a different area because of concerns over “armed militia” threatening government workers in the region, according to an email sent to federal agencies…”
Charlotte, NC station WBTV confirmed these reports, “The news comes after FEMA workers across Hurricane Helene’s disaster zone in western North Carolina have been targeted with misinformation and rumors about the federal government’s recovery operations in the area.”
Trucks of militia units were out “hunting” FEMA personnel, which caused FEMA to have to stop the work they were doing on Saturday. They were told to continue to “standdown” throughout Monday:
Effective immediately, disaster wide -- cease inspections today and return to your hotels,” an alert from Vanguard Inspection Services read on Saturday. “FEMA received news that the Title 10 (active military unit deployed to NC) came across some trucks of militia units who said they were out hunting FEMA personnel.”
Vanguard was not immediately available for comment.
Late Sunday evening, a second message from the company told employees to continue their standdown throughout Monday until further notice..
Journalist Jennifer Schulze had no problem calling it out:
Let’s be clear: armed militia are terrorizing FEMA rescue workers & causing important work to stop because Donald Trump spread lies & disinformation about the hurricane. This is on the Republican candidate for President with help from Elon Musk. Shameful & Disqualifying.
It’s unfathomable that this urgent work is being stopped by armed militia inspired by Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s lies. But it is.
Seems totally normal for a former president and current presidential candidate./s Nothing to see or report on here, certainly nothing Americans should be apprised of on the same level they were apprised of the unhidden fact that President Biden is an 81 year-old adult.
Authoritarian expert Ruth Ben-Ghiat noted, “Did you know that Fascism started in Italy as a decentralized militia movement?”
