Making the case that ICE needs to be abolished because the agency lacks accountability and does not function as a recognizable law enforcement body, the New York Democrat explained, “ICE is an agency that has not even existed for as long as many of us have even been alive, they are a new agency created in the surveillance state establishment after 9/11.”

AOC also took on the argument that anyone against ICE is against law enforcement:
“And so, that’s not to say that there shouldn’t be any enforcement. We have laws, and and that should go through our criminal justice system, just like breaking any other law works. And so, if you engage in violence or if you engage in any of these things, we we have an established criminal justice system where we are able to have our day in court. We are able to experience due process, and whatever consequence may exist from that, that is how our system works. But a black box, unconstitutional system that can be used to disappear people, which is what this administration is doing, should not exist in any functioning democracy in the world, let alone the United States of America.”

While answering a student’s question during Sunday’s town hall, AOC also took apart the idea of needing ICE as a law enforcement agency, arguing that it operates as a system designed to kidnap and house bodies for profit.
