Former Prince Andrew has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public life following the release of new documents by the U.S. Department of Justice related to the Epstein case.

The arrest, connected to a criminal investigation regarding his links to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, took place at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where the Royal has recently taken up residence.

The arrest of the King’s brother has been called a ‘national earthquake’.

“Let’s make it first, extremely clear, this is a royal earthquake, a national earthquake that is touching the royal the British Royal Family. Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, former Prince Andrew, has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office,” royal correspondent Bénédicte Paviot said on France 24.

Police are investigating allegations that he passed confidential government documents to Epstein while serving as a British trade envoy.

Police are searching Royal Lodge within the grounds of Windsor Great Park, where the former Prince previously lived, as well as six unmarked police cars and around eight plain-clothed officers arriving at his current residence to carry out the arrest and search the property according to reports.

The former Duke of York had already been stripped of his HRH style following a previous civil sexual assault lawsuit by the late Virginia Giuffre, who bravely led accusations against Jeffrey Epstein and former Prince Andrew. The former Prince settled that lawsuit in 2022.

Epstein survivor Marina Lacerda told CNN:

It’s amazing, and it’s really, really something that all the survivors have been looking forward to and working towards, and I have to say, Virginia’s brother and sister must be thrilled right now.

You know, I just look at it. It’s insane how everyone’s taking action, and we are doing nothing in the United States. I’m right here in Norway right now…and it’s just really sad that United States is not taking any action. But I’m very, very happy that we’re making history here, so this is big.

Although the arrest seems to be centered on government documents rather than the sexual misconduct accusations, Virginia Giuffre’s siblings, Sky and Amanda Roberts, released a statement expressing gratitude to the UK’s Thames Valley Police, stating, “At last, today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law.”
